The Basics: is this anxiety?
Most of us feel anxious from time to time—before a big presentation, during a life change, or when waiting for important news. But how do you know if what you're feeling is just stress or something more?
Here are a few signs that what you're experiencing might be anxiety:
Your mind feels constantly “on.” You replay conversations, worry about what could go wrong, or struggle to shut your thoughts off at night.
Your body is feeling it too. Common physical symptoms include a racing heart, tight chest, nausea, headaches, or trouble sleeping.
You avoid certain situations. You might steer clear of social events, tasks, or places because of fear or what-if thinking.
You feel on edge often. Irritability, restlessness, or a sense that something bad is going to happen can be part of the picture.
It’s affecting your daily life. When anxious thoughts or symptoms start to interfere with your work, relationships, or routines, it may be time to get support.
Anxiety can look different from person to person. Whether it’s mild and lingering or feels overwhelming and constant, therapy can help you understand your experience, learn coping tools, and begin to feel more in control.
